NR592 Elastic Shaft Alignment (ESA)

This Rule Note provides specific requirements and methodology for shaft alignment assessment onboard large ships integrating two conflicting parameters being shaft line stiffness and hull flexibility. NR592 provides guidelines for calculations in view of hull deflection, aft steelwork elasticity, oil film behaviour and shaft bearing stiffness as well as the related requirements.
