Pioneers in Safety and Performance

At Bureau Veritas, we understand the challenges you face in designing, building and operating a truly sustainable maritime business.
Finding a partner you can trust to work with you on the development and application of new technologies is a daunting task.  Track record and experience is everything.

We’ve been pioneering the safety and performance of new technologies since 1828. Whether it was assuring the first ocean going tankship, Gluckauf, back in 1886, the first Korean-built membrane LNG carrier, the 130,600 m3, 1995-built Hanjin Pyeong Taek, and the first dual-fuel diesel-electric (DFDE) LNG carrier, Global Energy, delivered in 2004, the first Ultra Large Container Ship with LNG as fuel in 2020, or developing the first rules for ammonia as fuel, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore has been leading industry innovation to shape a better maritime world for future generations.

As one of the world’s leading ship classification societies and offshore safety and verification bodies, we have a global network to support you worldwide. We’re by your side to help navigate the energy transition; supporting you with practical advice, tools and technology for you to make the right decisions to run a safe, sustainable and high performing business.

Pioneering the Safety and Performance of the Fuels of the Future

From biofuels to methanol, and ethanol to hydrogen, we are pioneering the safety and performance of low and zero carbon fuels, as well as alternative propulsion for both newbuilds and in-service vessels.

We are leading the energy transition, working with industry to develop clean energy solutions, now and in the future, like our current work on de-risking the use of ammonia as a marine fuel.

Pioneering the Safety and Performance of the Gas Value Chain

For decades, Bureau Veritas has been supporting the marine and offshore industries in the safe exploration, extraction, liquefaction, transportation, and delivery of gas.  Today, we’re tackling the challenge of fugitive methane emissions released during LNG processing, transportation and use.

We were there at the start of seaborne gas transportation. And we’ll continue to apply our expertise with the emerging value chains of the energy transition, supporting the distribution of the fuels of the future.

Pioneering the Safety and Performance of Cyber Secure Systems

At Bureau Veritas, we’re helping shipyards, shipowners and manufacturers define and implement effective cyber security measures onboard and ashore.  For example, we’re helping ensure that our clients’ cyber resilience meets new IACS requirements.

Through cyber risk analysis, stringent procedures, equipment certification, crew cyber awareness and training, we’re helping the maritime industry become compliant and cyber resilient.

Pioneering the Safety and Performance of Wind Technology

Wind-assisted propulsion technology is once again on the cutting edge of innovation to reduce shipping emissions.  At Bureau Veritas, we’ve led the way in wind technology; from assuring the safety of the sailing ships of the 1800s, to pioneering projects that harness the wind for vessel propulsion.

Now we’re collaborating on wind technology projects such as freestanding rigs, wing sails, rotors, and kite sails to power marine decarbonization.

Pioneering the Safety and Performance of Offshore Wind

Bureau Veritas has always been at the forefront of wind technology since the first pioneering breakthroughs to harness the wind for offshore energy.
Now we’re enabling the latest innovations to make floating offshore wind farms a reality, such as the first offshore windfarm in the Celtic Sea, one of the largest floating offshore wind projects in the world.
