Introducing
Rosemary

Rosemary has always been guided by a spirit of adventure, a love of traveling and a desire to explore new places. As a student, this brought her to the maritime industry, where she has been working as an engineer and discovering the world ever since.

Rosemary graduated from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria with a degree in marine engineering, then took work onboard tankers, anchor handling vessels and supply vessels. She earned her marine engineering license in 2017, and joined Bureau Veritas Nigeria in March 2020, where her days are full of surveys, reporting and training.

As a female engineer in Nigeria, Rosemary has spent many years fighting for recognition and acceptance in her work. She has persevered through disparaging comments, gender discrimination, and others’ repeated doubts in her skills. Rosemary can even recall being told to find another industry to work in – that the marine world is a place for men only.

None of this shook Rosemary’s resolve, and she has made it her mission to always rise above her environment. She came to Bureau Veritas with the desire to forge her own career path and clear the way for other female engineers to come. She enjoys the high level of trust placed in her, the satisfaction of a job well done, and the collaborative environment in which her colleagues support her growth.

Rosemary credits her success thus far to a combination of hard work, perseverance, and diligence. She knows that being the first woman in any space comes with challenges; her goal is to pave the way for those who come next.
