Introducing Marion

Marion joined Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore after working in the merchant navy. She loves that she keeps working onboard ships while developing complementary skills onshore in a stimulating and exciting working environment.

Please describe your job as Marine Surveyor?

As a Marine Surveyor in Le Havre, France, my role is to inspect ships and make sure that they are safe to go back at sea. They must conform to very strict safety standards and I am in charge of verifying conformity or, if it is not the case, that the right actions are implemented to address any issues.

What opportunities have helped you develop your career?

I have known what kind of job I wanted to do since I was in high school, that is, a job that requires mechanical and technical skills and that offers adventure in an unconventional working environment. So after high school I became a merchant marine officer. For three years I worked on ships, laying and repairing cables, and on ferries.

As I left the merchant navy, I wanted to find a job that would allow me to continue working in a maritime and engineering environment. Joining Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore as a Marine Surveyor 2 years ago gave me this opportunity and allowed me to start developing complementary skills onshore.

What do you enjoy most about working for Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore?

What I love most about my job is that I keep going onboard ships, something that I really loved when I was a merchant marine officer. It is also a highly technical job, which requires very specific skills that need to be constantly complemented with new knowledge as the marine world progresses. Last but not least, it is a very enriching job on a human level as interactions with colleagues and clients are all about trust.
