Introducing Talip

Talip works as New Construction Project Lead Surveyor for the Turkish office. Throughout his career at Bureau Veritas he had the opportunity to live and work in Bureau Veritas offices overseas and he particularly loved his experience in China.

Please describe your job as New Construction Project Lead Surveyor?

My role as New Construction Project Lead Surveyor for Bureau Veritas Türkiye is to check that new build ships comply with all classification rules.

We cover the surveying process from beginning to end. Starting with a kick-off meeting with the client, we then cover all the verification steps leading to the delivery of a certificate proving that the new vessel is ready to embark on its first voyage.

What challenges do you face in your day-to-day work?

One of the key challenges - which is also, incidentally, one of the key motivational factors - is the fact that every day we receive different types of ships from various shipyards in Türkiye. As different types of rules apply to different types of ships, this means constantly staying up-to-date with new rules being published.

This also applies to new builds fitted with new technologies. Because our marine environment is very dynamic, changing and demanding, the role of New Construction Project Lead Surveyor requires to that I stay constantly informed on new technologies and new rules applying to those technologies.

Bureau Veritas M&O

Bureau Veritas is a strong global company that gives you the opportunity to broaden your vision through international colleagues and experience.

What opportunities have helped you develop your career?

I joined Bureau Veritas Türkiye as an intern in 2000 and, through dedication and hard work, I was one of the few interns in my year that were offered a permanent position in the company. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work in various functions – from Equipments and material certification (EMC) to plan approval and new construction – that have all helped me develop a wide variety of technical skills.

Just as importantly, Bureau Veritas gave me the opportunity to move around in different countries, experiencing different cultures and gathering different types of skills.

Why do you recommend working for Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore?

Bureau Veritas is a strong global company that gives you the opportunity to broaden your vision through international colleagues and experience.
It also gives you a purpose that you can be proud of. The expertise we gain and the impartial service we provide make us a trusted partner for our clients and enable us to contribute to making the world a better place.

What do you enjoy most about working for Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore?

Regardless of how much experience and skills you think you may have, Bureau Veritas is a school for lifelong learning. With every new opportunity the company offers you – be it different division or different country – you have the chance to learn new things each and every day.

For me this was made very clear with my experience in China. During the financial crisis, I was sent to the Bureau Veritas China office in 2008 for what should have been just ten months; instead, I stayed three and a half years upon request from the China office. During that period I worked with a wide variety of ships and international clients, delivering certificates proving that those ships were safe for goods and people to travel on. Ultimately, it is that responsibility that makes this job so interesting and exciting.
