Safety & Sustainability
Technical Bulletin 2011

Summary

This section groups three papers.

The first one covers an experimental investigation of crew fatigue and performance, both on the bridge and in the engine control room, for a 6 on / 6 off watch regime, conducted within the HORIZON EU FP7 sponsored research project. It presents the experimental methodology, based on full scale simulations with certificated seafarers, the scenarios considered, measurements and observations performed as well as the data processing and preliminary results obtained.

The second paper describes a risk-based methodology developed by Bureau Veritas to assist designers in the assessment, benchmarking and selection of key technologies to be used on offshore floating LNG terminals. An illustration of the application of this methodology on an LNG FPSO project is also presented.

The last paper gives an overview of the main benefits and challenges of the use of natural gas as fuel. B. Dabouis published a dedicated paper, describing the approach of BV to integrating requirements for gas-fuelled ships into the rules for classification. The paper also presents a sensitivity analysis relating to economic aspects and impact of natural gas fuel on sea shipping, and in particular short sea shipping.
