Bureau Veritas grants AiPs for two tanker designs developed by SeaTech Solutions International
Apr. 23 2026
Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has issued Approval in Principle (AiP) certificates to SeaTech Solutions International (S) Pte Ltd for two next-generation 80m tanker designs intended to support evolving regional energy logistics and lower-carbon fuel transport.
The AiPs cover an 80m Oil Tanker and an 80m Oil/Chemical Tanker designed for multi-product operations, including the future carriage of methanol and B100 biofuel.
The projects reflect increasing demand for flexible and efficient tonnage capable of transporting both conventional liquid cargoes and emerging low-carbon energy products as the maritime and energy sectors accelerate decarbonization pathways.
Each design has a length overall of 80.0 meters, a breadth of 15.0 meters, a depth of 6.9 meters and a summer draft of 4.2 meters. The vessels are designed for a cruising speed of 8.5 knots and a maximum speed of 10 knots, and are intended for Australian coastal operations.
Both designs were reviewed by BV and found to be aligned, at concept stage, with applicable classification rules and regulatory requirements, marking an important step forward in their development.
For the Oil Tanker design, Bureau Veritas conducted the review with reference to applicable BV Rules, SOLAS and MARPOL requirements, supporting safe and efficient transport of conventional petroleum cargoes. For the Oil/Chemical Tanker design, the review also considered the IBC Code, supporting readiness for more complex cargo profiles and future fuel supply chains.
Prabjot Singh Chopra, Vice President (Technology), SeaTech Solutions International, said: “The maritime industry is undergoing a fundamental shift in fuel and cargo requirements, and these designs reflect the need for safe, efficient and adaptable shipping solutions. At SeaTech Solutions International, we have prioritised flexibility to support the transport of both conventional cargoes and emerging fuels such as methanol and biofuels. We appreciate the support from Bureau Veritas in validating these forward-looking concepts, which will contribute to more resilient and sustainable coastal shipping operations.”
