This week Song Baoru, Chairman of Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), led a six-member SMU delegation to the Bureau Veritas Paris Head Office. Matthieu De Tugny, President of Bureau Veritas, Marine & Offshore with Alex Gregg-Smith, Senior Vice-President North Asia, and a Bureau Veritas team were present to welcome SMU and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), laying a solid foundation for future in-depth cooperation.

The MOU describes an ambition and determination to foster immediate cooperation between the two parties to help make the maritime industry safer, cleaner and more efficient by focusing on the development of innovation, expertise and qualified maritime people.

In-depth exchanges were held on decarbonization and digital innovation; on development trends for ship technology and logistics; and on transportation technology. The education and development of engineers and high-level maritime expertise were a particular focus. The discussions also looked at the challenges of research with international cooperation, deepening the understanding of the potential for the two organizations to work together in the field of maritime science and technology innovation.
