The 8th session of the Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR 8), was held remotely from 22 to 26 March 2021.
The 8th session of the Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR 8), was held remotely from 22 to 26 March 2021.
PPR 8 has agreed to :
- Inclusion of a generic entry for “Palm oil mill effluent (POME) technical oil” in List 1 of the MEPC.2/Circular (no expiry dates) & Chapter 17 of the IBC Code (item 3)
- Consider that microfouling cleaning should not be limited to its performance in dry-dock only (item 4)
- Development of a standardized sampling, conditioning and measurement protocol applicable to Black carbon emissions & Consideration of potential regulatory options in a phased-approach with guidelines in the short-term (item 5)
- The draft guidelines contained in annex 2 of the Correspondence Group report on Development of measures to reduce risks of use and carriage of HFO as fuel by ships in Arctic waters - The provisions applicable to ship operators and the provisions applicable to maritime Administrations had been grouped in respective sections (item 6)
- Exclusion of grey water from the list of diluents make existing type-approved systems non-compliant since they have been approved with the inclusion of grey water as a diluent (item 7)
- The application criteria for existing ships was not decided at PPR 8, as this is a matter of policy expected to be decided by MEPC 76 (item 7)
PPR 8 has approved :
- The report of the 26th session of the Working Group on the Evaluation of Safety and Pollution Hazards of Chemicals contained in paper PPR 8/3 (item 3)
- The terms of reference for the Correspondence Group (item 7 & 11)
