Pollution Prevention and Response SUB-COMMITTEE 12th SESSION (PPR 12) SUMMARY REPORT

The twelfth session of IMO Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR 12) was held in person from the 27th to the 31st of January 2025, with hybrid facilities allowing remote participation.

PPR 12 approved:

• the draft 2025 SCR Guidelines and the associated draft MEPC resolution with a view to adoption by MEPC 83;
• the draft amendments to the 2023 Guidelines for the development of the Inventory of Hazardous Materials and the associated draft MEPC resolution.
• the evaluations carried out by ESPH 30 for the inclusion new products within the lists of MEPC.2/Circ.30 issued on 1 December 2024, and the inclusion of 12 additional cleaning additives in the circular.

PPR 12 agreed to:

• the draft Guidance on in-water cleaning of ships' biofouling and the associated draft MEPC circular, with a view to their approval by MEPC 83;
• the draft MEPC circular on Interim guidance on the carriage of blends of biofuels and MARPOL Annex I cargoes by conventional bunker ships (allowing the carriage of blends up to 30%), for submission to MEPC 83;
• the draft 2025 Action Plan to Address Marine Plastic Litter from Ships and the updated grouping of short, mid-, long-term and continuous actions with a view to approval in principle by MEPC 83 for inclusion in a future revision of the Strategy.
