NR467 Part A

Amendments to the Steel Ship Rules NR467 Part A January 2024

Amendments to BV rules for the Classification of Steel Ships, NR 467 Part A “Classification and surveys” apply from the 1st of January 2024.

The main amendments consist of:

New additional service features, additional class notation and extension of existing additional class notations.

The new additional service features are:

  • Hydrogenfuel: assigned to ships fitted with engine, fuel cells or gas turbines using hydrogen as a fuel

  • Methanol bunkering: assigned to chemical tankers when intended to ensure the transfer of methanol cargo to ships for use as a fuel

  • WIND PROPULSION-1 and WIND PROPULSION-2: assigned to ships equipped with a wind propulsion system as defined in NR206, and assigned a service notation other than yacht or charter yacht. For vessels assigned the notation yacht or charter yacht, these notations may be assigned on a voluntary basis as additional class notation. These notations are replacing the additional class notation WPS.

The new additional class notations are:

  • HYDROGENFUEL-PREPARED: assigned to new ships designed to accommodate future installation of a hydrogen fuel system

  • SYNC-COM: assigned to ships equipped with synchronous communication systems which can ensure transfer of data between the ship and the shore

  • HVSC-PREPARED: assigned to ships designed with specific arrangements to accommodate a High-Voltage Shore Connection (HVSC) installation at a later stage

  • OCC-PREPARED: assigned to ships with specific arrangements intended to accommodate an Onboard Carbon Capture (OCC) system at a later stage

  • LASHING-RSSA(): may be assigned in lieu of the notation LASHING to ships which may be engaged in voyages on specific routes or in specific areas. This notation replaces the notation Lashing (specific area).

The extensions of existing additional class notations are:

  • LNGFUEL-PREPARED: addition of option (A) related to the specific arrangements for ventilation and access to gas-related spaces already onboard

  • SMART: addition of option (Lx) for the use of electronic logbooks and introduction of group 3 for “augmented ships”.

Other:

The survey requirements are updated for the new class notations and the additional class notation PaRoll.
