Amendments to the Steel Ship Rules NR 467 Part A

Amendments to BV rules for the classification of steel ships, NR 467 Part A “classification and surveys”  apply from the 1st of January 2023.

 

The main amendments consist of:

  • New additional service feature and additional class notations.

  • Transposition of IACS Unified Requirement UR Z29 “Remote Classification Surveys” applicable for surveys commenced on or after 1st January 2023.

 

The new additional service feature is:

OCC: assigned to ships fitted with a carbon capture and storage (CCS) system intended to separate the carbon dioxide (CO2) from the ship engine exhaust gases and store it on board.

 

The new additional class notations are:

ASYNC-COM:  assigned to ships equipped with asynchronous communication systems which can ensure transfer of data between the ship and the shore.

CII-REALTIME: assigned to ships provided with computer based systems which collect the data for the IMO Data Collection System (DCS) in order to calculate a Continuous Carbon Index

- CYBER MANAGED: assigned to ships compliant with the set of requirements for critical equipment management, crew training, remote access and change management.

CYBER RESILIENT:  assigned to ships compliant with the minimum requirements regarding ships resilience when dealing with cyber-attacks.

- CYBER SECURE: assigned to ships compliant with the set of requirements for cyber management, equipment hardening and overall design of the systems to guarantee a defence in depth.

DATA-INFRA: assigned to ships fitted with a data infrastructure on board, which ensure reliable data collection, transmission, storage, control, sharing and availability to multiple data consumers.

EVOC: assigned to ships having the service notation ro-ro passenger ship, carrying electric vehicles intended to be charged on board

SMART: revised notation assigned to ships fitted with computerized based systems that incorporate smart functions for collection, transmission, analysis and visualisation of data.

 

A new appendix, Ch 2, App 5 “Remote Classification Surveys”, is added, which contains principles, minimum requirements, scope and eligible remote survey items for carrying out remote classification surveys. These principles and requirements are in line with the new IACS unified requirement UR Z29.

 

In addition the survey requirements are updated for the new class notations and various IACS unified requirements are transposed.

 

For pre-CSR bulk carriers, the renewal thickness of inner bottom plating is updated.
