MARSHALL ISLANDS - COORDINATED UNIVERSAL TIME DERIVED FROM GPS DEVICES

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Maritime Administrator has issued the below Safety Advisories, concerning coordinated universal time derived from Global Positionning System  devices.

The United States Department of Homeland Security has issued the attached memorandum on how GPS devices with a poorly implemented GPS time-to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) conversion algorithm may provide incorrect UTC following a rollover event to take place 06 April 2019.

Republic of the Marshall Islands vessel owners and operators should refer to this memorandum for more information and recommendations on this issue.
