HD Hyundai Samho Receives Bureau Veritas Approval in Principle for Innovative Container Ship Bow Windshield Design

HD Hyundai Samho Co., Ltd.(HD Hyundai Samho) has received an Approval in Principle (AiP) from Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV), for its innovative container ship bow windshield design. The AiP marks the successful completion of a Joint Development Project (JDP) between the two organizations and was formally presented during Posidonia 2026.

The bow windshield is a key structural feature installed at the forward section of a ship, working in conjunction with the breakwater to reduce aerodynamic resistance. Through the collaborative development project, HD Hyundai Samho successfully optimized the ship’s hull structure, delivering a design that is expected to enhance fuel efficiency while reducing manufacturing costs.

Throughout the project, HD Hyundai Samho and Bureau Veritas worked closely to help ensure the design met applicable international regulations and achieved optimal aerodynamic performance. BV provided technical expertise and conducted assessments of the windshield’s structural integrity, safety, and operational effectiveness, supporting the successful award of the AiP.

The technologies developed through this JDP are expected to play a significant role in the development of next-generation environmentally friendly ships. The bow windshield design represents another step forward in HD Hyundai Samho’s efforts to improve ship efficiency and support the industry's decarbonization objectives.
