HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ 60,000m³ LPG/NH₃/VCM Carrier Verified by Bureau Veritas

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HD HHI) and Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) have successfully concluded a Basic Design Assessment (BDA) for a 60,000m³ LPG/NH3/VCM Carrier, marking a significant step forward in the development of next-generation multi-gas carrier solutions.

The new vessel concept has been developed by HD HHI to address the growing demand for the efficient transportation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ammonia (NH3), and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM). Leveraging HD HHI’s extensive expertise in gas carrier design and construction, the project focused on developing an optimized concept design that combines operational flexibility, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Throughout the project, HD HHI developed the concept and basic design packages in accordance with BV Rules and applicable international regulations.

BV performed the Basic Design Assessment based on the documentation submitted by HD HHI and verified the design in accordance with the latest edition of BV Rules and regulatory requirements. The review confirmed that the proposed vessel concept does not present any contradiction with the applicable Rules and Regulations and that technical considerations identified during the assessment have been appropriately addressed within the design development process.

This collaborative evaluation demonstrates the technical feasibility and robustness of the 60,000m³ LPG/NH₃/VCM Carrier concept, supporting its readiness for further development and future classification activities. The successful completion of the BDA represents another milestone in the long-standing partnership between HD HHI and BV and highlights their shared commitment to delivering innovative, safe, and efficient gas transportation solutions for the maritime industry.
