BV’s first UK Type Examination and Quality system Certificates go to CM HAMMAR AB’s liferaft safety devices
Dec. 12 2022
Bureau Veritas (BV) has awarded its first UK Type Examination & Quality System certification to CM HAMMAR AB’s Hydrostatic Release Units (HRU), helping make our seas safer.
HRUs utilize a simple design to secure and release liferafts to a ship. If a vessel is sinking, increasing water pressure activates the HRU. At 1.5 to 4 meters below the surface, a blade cuts through the strong rope to release the raft, which then floats to the surface to be accessed by survivors. It’s a simple float-free mechanism that requires no human intervention to operate, can be easily replaced, and could be instrumental in helping people get to safety.
BV provided a review of the technical documentation and test reports against UK Merchant Shiping Regulations 2016 to award the UK Type Examination Certificate. It certifies that the HAMMAR H20 types comply with regulatory, technical and safety requirements. BV also performed an assessment of their Quality System against the same regulations, and awarded CM HAMMAR AB the UK Quality System Certificate.
