BV Grants AIP Certification to Four Jiangnan Shipyard Projects Supporting Green Shipping Innovation

Dec. 29 2025

Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has granted Approval in Principle (AIP) certificates to four innovative projects developed by CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard, covering green hydrogen transportation, liquid ammonia storage and supply, low-carbon LNG shipping, and ammonia-fuel applications. As an international classification society, BV provides independent technical assessment, supporting the safe, compliant, and practical application of advanced green technologies.

One of the certified designs is a 20,000 m³ LH₂ carrier, a new solution developed for the long-distance transport of green hydrogen between East Asia, the Middle East, and Australia. The vessel is equipped with Jiangnan Shipyard’s proprietary ultra-low-temperature cargo containment system, enabling safe hydrogen carriage while significantly reducing boil-off rate (BOR).

BV also granted AIP certification to a 200,000 m³ ULAC-FSRU (PANDA 200AF) with ammonia regasification capability. This new-generation ultra-large liquefied gas carrier is specifically designed for the transport of liquid ammonia and direct pipeline supply transfer, integrating ammonia regasification functionality to support flexible energy distribution scenarios.

Another certified project is the 175,000 m³ MARK III Flex LNG carrier, a new-generation design fully optimized to meet the demands of global LNG trade. The vessel combines enhanced hydrodynamic performance with advanced engine technologies to reduce gas and fuel consumption, lower carbon emissions, and minimize methane slip, supporting long-term low-carbon LNG operations.

The fourth certified project is the JINAGAS ammonia fuel supply system, Jiangnan Shipyard’s latest-generation zero-carbon fuel solution. In compliance with the latest IMO Interim Guidelines for the Use of Ammonia as Fuel, the system provides a complete, integrated solution covering ammonia fuel storage tanks, fuel supply, heat exchange, and exhaust gas treatment, supporting the safe application of ammonia fuel across multiple vessel types.

The certifications further strengthen cooperation between BV and Jiangnan Shipyard, supporting the practical deployment of innovative technologies and contributing to the maritime industry’s transition toward sustainable shipping.
