Bureau Veritas Issues Design Assessment for bound4blue's Model 3-24 eSAIL®
Sep. 8 2026
Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has delivered a Design Assessment for bound4blue's Model 3-24 eSAIL®, a wind propulsion technology designed to maximize the contribution of wind power on larger vessels.
Presented during SMM 2026 in Hamburg, the Design Assessment confirms that the Model 3-24 eSAIL® has undergone an independent review in accordance with BV's technical requirements. The assessment supports the evaluation of wind propulsion technologies as the maritime industry explores solutions to improve vessel efficiency and reduce emissions.
The assessed Model 3-24 eSAIL® is part of bound4blue's latest generation of suction sail technology. The Model 3 series, ranging from 24 to 36 meters in height, has been developed to maximize the contribution of wind propulsion on larger vessels while maintaining straightforward installation and operation.
bound4blue's eSAIL® technology utilizes boundary layer suction to enhance aerodynamic performance and generate additional propulsive force from the wind. By reducing the power demand from conventional propulsion systems, the technology can contribute to lower fuel consumption, reduced CO₂ emissions and improved operational efficiency.
The Design Assessment reflects Bureau Veritas' commitment to supporting innovation across the maritime sector through independent technical evaluation and verification. By providing objective assessment of emerging technologies, BV helps facilitate the safe adoption of solutions that contribute to improved environmental performance while maintaining high standards of safety and reliability.
José Miguel Bermúdez, CEO and co-founder of bound4blue, said: “As the market matures, confidence becomes just as important as innovation. So, as wind takes its place within mainstream fleet investment, independent assessments really do play an increasingly important role in differentiating and substantiating technical solutions. Here at bound4blue it’s been a focus since day one.
We are committed to engaging with leading class societies to demonstrate the quality and potential of our proprietary technology. By doing so we provide owners, yards and wider industry stakeholders with the reassurance they need to embrace the wind revolution and unlock significant environmental and business benefits. We’re delighted to achieve this latest recognition from Bureau Veritas as we continue to cement our position as a trusted industry partner.”
