Bureau Veritas Guidelines for Autonomous Ships

Jul. 11 2019

With the development of autonomous shipping technology, owners are looking towards classification societies to keep their vessels safe and compliant.

Bureau Veritas’ NI 641 Guidelines for Autonomous Shipping, published in December 2017, provide a regulatory framework for the risk assessment of vessels and offshore units using autonomous systems. Our guidelines offer goal-based recommendations that allow clients to determine a minimum level of functionality for essential systems, improve system reliability and ensure assets meet acceptable levels of safety.

To keep our clients up-to-date on smart shipping advancements, Bureau Veritas will issue a revision of our NI 641 guidelines by the end of the year, taking into account the latest developments in digital technology.
