Bureau Veritas Celebrates Delivery of EON, The First Fully Electric Harbor Tug in Southeast Asia
Mar. 18 2026
Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) is pleased to celebrate the delivery of EON, the first fully electric harbor tug in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Built by PaxOcean and owned by Kuok Maritime Group (KMG) under the Coastal Sustainability Alliance (CSA), EON represents a major advancement in the region’s transition toward cleaner and more efficient harbor craft.
Following the successful delivery of Voltai (PXO-ACE-1), the first fully electric supply vessel built by PaxOcean in February 2024, the shipbuilder reached another milestone with the delivery of EON (PXO e-tug). The 29-metre tug, with a 50-ton bollard pull, features an integrated electric propulsion system from ABB. It is powered by a 3 MWh lithium titanate oxide (LTO) battery pack connected to ABB’s energy management and DC grid systems. This configuration enables efficient battery integration, reduces energy conversion losses between power sources and onboard loads, and optimizes drivetrain efficiency while extending the vessel’s operational range per charge.
BV works with the CSA and KMG to class these zero-emission vessels, which are among the first and largest locally designed electric harbor craft intended for operation in Singapore’s coastal waters. EON is assigned BV’s BATTERY SYSTEM Notation, reflecting its fully electric propulsion architecture. The project represents an important milestone in the industry’s efforts to accelerate coastal decarbonization, support the transition toward a blue economy, and strengthen sustainable marine supply chains.
In Singapore, BV has been playing a key role in advancing maritime electrification. Earlier projects with Penguin International, Yinson and Pyxis reflect the growing ecosystem of industry players committed to cleaner maritime operations. The delivery of EON further reinforces BV’s role in supporting the deployment of next-generation marine technologies in the region.
