Bureau Veritas brings maritime stakeholders together to accelerate electrification in Singapore
Nov. 5 2026
Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) co-organized Maritime Electrification 2.0: Charging Ahead with the Association of Singapore Marine & Offshore Energy Industries (ASMI) and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), bringing together around 100 participants from across Singapore's maritime ecosystem to discuss the next steps in harbor craft electrification and maritime decarbonization.
The event forms part of the Centre of Maritime Electrification (CoME) initiative, which was established by BV and SIT in 2025 through a Memorandum of Understanding to bring together industry experts, researchers, and academia to address practical challenges associated with maritime electrification and accelerate the transition toward zero-emission maritime operations.
Held at the Trade Association Hub in Singapore, the seminar provided a platform for stakeholders across the maritime value chain to exchange insights on the regulatory, technical, operational, and commercial aspects of electrification.
A key highlight of the event was the announcement by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) of an Early Adoption Grant for eligible electric harbor craft, reinforcing Singapore's commitment to supporting the adoption of zero carbon technologies and accelerating the sector's decarbonization efforts.
The program brought together perspectives from across the maritime electrification ecosystem. Presentations were delivered by Kester Kiong of the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore; Assoc. Prof. Elsa Feng, Associate Professor, Engineering Cluster, Singapore Institute of Technology; Bruno Delannoy, Head of Electricity and Automation Section, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore; Goh Siew Min, Manager, Kuok Maritime Group; and Foo Chee Kiang, Sales Manager, VC Power Pte. Ltd. Covering regulatory developments, charging infrastructure, vessel operations, commercial considerations, and port readiness, the sessions underscored the significant progress being made across the sector and the importance of cross-industry collaboration in advancing maritime electrification.
The event concluded with a panel discussion featuring all speakers, moderated by SIT's Associate Professor Tay Chuan Beng. Discussions highlighted the importance of cross-industry collaboration to overcome technical, operational and commercial barriers and to build a scalable electrification ecosystem for Singapore's harbour craft sector.
As a trusted partner to the maritime industry, Bureau Veritas continues to support owners, operators, designers, shipyards, and technology providers throughout the electrification journey, from concept development and design review to classification, certification, and operation. Through initiatives such as CoME, BV helps foster collaboration across the maritime ecosystem, and advance the safe, reliable, and sustainable adoption of electrification technologies.
