Bureau Veritas Awards AIP for 3D Model-Based Design Approval Process with HD Hyundai Samho and Siemens at Gastech 2025
Sep. 11 2025
Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV), has awarded an Approval in Principle (AIP) for a pioneering 3D model-based design approval process, developed in collaboration with HD Hyundai Samho (HSHI) and Siemens Digital Industries Software (Siemens). The announcement was made during Gastech 2025 in Milan, underscoring the accelerating pace of digital transformation in the maritime industry.
The AIP builds on the Joint Development Project (JDP) signed in October 2024, which established a framework for implementing 3D model-based approval using Siemens’ Designcenter NX™ and Teamcenter® software, integrated with Bureau Veritas’ VeriSTAR Project Management (VPM) system.
This innovation enables classification approval to be carried out directly on 3D models that embed technical drawing information, setting a new benchmark for digital ship design and approval.
The process has been piloted on part of a 174K LNG carrier under construction at HD Hyundai Samho, with future plans to extend the approach to a wider range of vessel types. The secured neutral-format models also enhance interpretation and simulation, and accelerate approval cycles, ultimately improving collaboration across design, approval, and production.
