Bureau Veritas Awarded Classification Mandate for OceanSTAR’s FPSO at the Sepat Integrated Redevelopment Project Offshore Malaysia
Apr. 9 2026
Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) is pleased to announce that it will provide classification services for a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit to be developed by OceanSTAR Engineering Holdings Sdn Bhd (OceanSTAR), a subsidiary of OceanSTAR Elite Group of Companies, for the Sepat Integrated Redevelopment Project of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd. (PCSB) in Malaysia.
This project marks a significant milestone for OceanSTAR — the company’s first FPSO development in Malaysia — and reflects its growing presence in the regional offshore energy sector. It also represents a pivotal step in the commercialization of OceanSTAR’s OSE GH200 generic hull design, which received Bureau Veritas Basic Design Assessment in 2024.
The FPSO will be deployed for the Sepat field redevelopment offshore Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia. The newbuild unit will operate in approximately 70 meters of water depth and will be spread-moored, with a minimum processing capacity of 30,000 barrels of liquids per day.
The FPSO will incorporate gas injection and gas lift systems, with provisions for future water injection, enabling efficient reservoir management and enhanced production performance.
As classification society, Bureau Veritas will provide classification services throughout the full project lifecycle, from design review and plan approval through construction, installation, and commissioning, helping ensure that the unit meets applicable international and local safety, technical, and performance standards.
Datuk Capt. Rozali Hamzah, Managing Director, OceanSTAR Engineering Holdings Sdn Bhd, said: “Awarding the classification mandate for this FPSO project to Bureau Veritas reflects OceanSTAR's commitment to the highest standards of safety and technical excellence. The Sepat Integrated Redevelopment Project is a defining moment for our company, and we are confident that our collaboration with Bureau Veritas will ensure the successful and timely delivery of this unit. We look forward to contributing to Malaysia’s continued growth as a regional hub for offshore energy development.”
