Bureau Veritas and Agence Mauritanienne des Affaires Maritimes sign RO Agreement to strengthen Mauritanian fleet quality and international compliance

Apr. 24 2026

Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has signed a Statutory Delegation Agreement with the Mauritanian Maritime Affairs Agency (AMAM) to support the enhancement of the Mauritanian fleet’s technical standards and safety performance.

Under this cooperation framework, Bureau Veritas is recognized by the Mauritanian maritime administration to carry out statutory surveys and certification activities on behalf of the Flag State Administration, helping ensure vessels flying the Mauritanian flag and classed by BV comply with applicable international requirements.

The agreement aims to progressively strengthen the technical compliance of the Mauritanian fleet in line with international instruments, while reinforcing maritime safety systems that contribute to the protection of life at sea and preservation of the marine environment.

For ships seeking initial registration under the Mauritanian flag, and classed by BV, enhanced technical requirements will support the continued improvement of fleet quality and readiness for port state control inspections.

Through its global classification and certification expertise, Bureau Veritas will support compliance with key International Maritime Organization conventions, including the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and the International Load Line Convention (LL).

This new agreement reflects Mauritania’s commitment to modernizing its maritime regulatory framework and further strengthen its position as a Flag State and Coastal State committed to high standards of safety, compliance and environmental protection.
