Our Services per Ship type

What are the classification needs of different ship types?

Each ship is different – not only in its type, but in the individual aspects of its design, its owner’s ambitions, operating profile, location and much more. Ship type is a key distinction by which classification societies can tailor their Rules, notations, audits and Class surveys to best support each and every vessel to compliance.

Why should you choose BV class for your ship?

We have the largest classed fleet by number of ships of any Classification society. With more than 11,530 BV-classed vessels in 2022, our fleet is very diverse and we offer extensive knowledge of highly specialized vessels. Our Rules are developed in close partnership with the maritime industry and continuously adapted to the current needs of all ship types.

Throughout our history we have been the classification partner of pioneering vessels. From the first icebreaker in 1899, to the first LNG carrier in 1962, we are now guiding all types of vessels, from harbor tugs to vast container ships, to achieve their objectives in safety and performance. We understand that your ships and your objectives are unique and strive to provide the guidance that meets your needs.

Classification requires an understanding of the international and regional regulations governing the maritime industry and the specific needs and challenges a single vessel faces.
That’s why we can say we are flexible without compromise at Bureau Veritas. Compliance and safety are non-negotiable, but we have the hands-on experience to translate the regulations meaningfully for any ship type.
