Pierre Chauviere
Pierre Chauviere began his career at Bureau Veritas in South Korea, and has since worked his way through Japan and Singapore. He is now the Regional General Manager for Offshore business in the zone he knows best: North Asia.
Please describe your job as a Regional General Manager for Offshore.
As the Regional General Manager for Offshore business in North Asia, I am responsible for project management in Bureau Veritas’ Offshore division. I am the key contact for high level technical issues, as well as questions of quality control and assurance at all stages of a project. I am also heavily involved in offshore business development for the North Asia market.
What challenges do you face in your day-to-day work?
A notable challenge is ensuring clear communication with clients from around the region. Part of my job involves explaining complex technical and regulatory concepts to clients whose native language is not English or French. Despite language barriers, I strive to provide insight into my work, and take a professional, culturally sensitive approach to every client experience.

What opportunities have helped you develop your career?
Shortly after I began working for Bureau Veritas, I was placed in charge of a project to follow-up on the construction of large containerships built for an important client. Having that level of responsibility early on gave me confidence, and the project inspired me to develop new technical specialties.
Now as the Regional General Manager for Offshore in North Asia, I can further broaden my skillset, taking on the responsibilities of business development, combining my technical and commercial interests to promote the Bureau Veritas brand.

Firstly, I like taking on the technological challenges of a fast-moving industry. Finally, I’ve greatly enjoyed living in countries throughout Asia, where I’ve embraced many rich cultures and environments.
